I want a yoga practice that burns calories, has a flow and almost feels like you are dancing. I believe that ashtanga or vinyasa yoga would do the trick but I want to make Sure..
Also! What type of Yoga DVD's should i obtain? I already am in an Advanced Yoga class - but this doesn't seem to meet my standards. I want something flowy and something that burns calories and gets your heart rate up.
I clearly get what you are asking. Frankly, an asana class is not the optimum way to burn calories and get your heart rate up. It's a bit like asking what running shoes are best for high speeds on the freeway. Sure you can run as fast as you want in those shoes but it simply isn't driving.
That having been said, as a yoga teacher I subscribe to the concept put forth by Sai Baba: "Give students what they want until they want all that you have to give". Ergo power yoga, bikram, and hot yoga would likely be your best "yoga" for caloric burn. I personally find an externally heated practice to be dangerous for the cardio-vascular system. Obviously I'm not advocating any of these styles - merely answering the question posed.
