What is the difference between tradtional yoga and modern yoga?

Wow that's not an easy answer nor is it short.

Briefly, Yoga in the classical sense is a vast body of wisdom for the mindful growth of human consciousness.

Yoga today, in the Western hemisphere, is often merely asana or poses. As such it is just gymnastics or a "workout" and therefore is so watered down that it has little of it's original benefits.

Think of it as fresh goat's milk that was pasteurized, then homogenized, then bottled, then trucked for days, then stored on shelves, then carted home then stored in the fridge, then consumed. What finally hits the taste buds is nothing compared to what drizzled in the bucket.
