Surfasana PCH & Moonshadows

Posted Sep 13 2008 5:42pm

53063559m_1 We were driving down PCH past Topanga headed to the afternoon DJ session @ Moonshadows' the Blue Lounge.

Heading past the point, I got to check the line-up of surfers. Started thinking of my friends Tricia and Mike S.,Topanga locals who I used to spend summer weekends with. Tricia I had met when she was a habitue' of the LA Euroclubs : Louis XIV, Ponana Souk and Bo Kaos. Once she met Mike at a bar in Santa Monica, Tricia traded the West Side high life to become a lady of the canyon.

Mike became my surf guru ; knowing I was with one of the original " Lords of Dogtown " gave me the cojones to stay in the line-up even when called a "kook". ( Topanga is heavily localized ).

Now that I am more into yoga asanas , it has become apparent that there is a strong link between surfing and yoga. Surya namaskar ( sun salutations ) and popping-up ( chatturanga ) have the same dynamics and flow. And dawn patrol is greeting the sun -

Being a Cancerian ,the pull and love of the ocean will always be a part of me.

Moonshadowssm_1 It was great to finally make it to a Sunset Session @ Moonshadows. I had been blowing off the idea for the longest time in light of recent developments ( i.e. Mr. Gibson ).

As Flavorpill puts it so well " chill vibes, sun rays, ocean views and good beats - what else could you need on a Sunday afternoon ".

And waddup with the Argentinians and Brazilians - They always suss out the good scenes.

No wonder Mr. G got in trouble.
