Quiksilver Mission : Yoga for Surfers Tres Mas con Kathryn Budig
Posted Sep 12 2008 11:28am
All good intentions manifest themselves in due time.In a prior post, I had indicated that practicing with Kathryn Budig was something I would make time for in the coming weeks.
As I walked in the Quiksilver Mission space this morning for the 10 AM Yoga for Surfers session, the teacher @ the front of the room announced, " I am Kathryn from YogaWorks" . Talk about serendipity. And in contrast to the manic chatasana vibe which is starting to become prevalent in studios prior to practice, the scene @ the Mission was totally chill .Chalk that up to the locals, Quiksilver dudes & Roxy wahines in attendance. Yup, it gets pretty zen in the line-up while waiting for the sets to roll in .
Kathryn's playful style was evident from the minute she used the pool table as her asana demo platform. She projected her joy in the practice as she showed the class several vinyasas & transitions. My new favorite flow to practice is the jump through from adho mukha to navasana. Her profile in Arthur Klein's YYoga movie talks about her fondness for adjustments. I was blessed to be the recipient of a couple of these. I will load a clip from YouTube this week that shows her groove.
Big up pranam to Quiksilver for keeping it real with the So Cal flavah in this era of mall brands endeavoring to position themselves as surfie companies.
Muchas gracias to Adam Katz, Director of Programming @ Quiksilver Edition, for all these events that give back to the satsang, a form of modern SEVA. It was a FULL HOUSE and more this morning , so RSVP via email if you want to participate in the experience next Saturday.
