Sunday, the 1st of July , was a "Cali Caliente " kind of day. Beaches were packed with refugees from the 818 and beyond seeking to beat the heat. It was a relief that the MAHA YP was being held in the cool cavern of the Church on Hill St. , as my first class of the day @ 2 PM had been a scorcher , physically & mentally.
Psalm Isadora led & managed the YP as Aras Baskauskas is currently traveling. His presence was repped by his older bro , and our teacher, Vytas B.
The flow of the free class was chill and marked by Psalm's trademark mantra " So Hum", core work / churning & back bends. She closed with several rounds of brahamari pranayama , which proved a challenge in my case as I was parked by one of the buffet tables. Fellow YP'er Austin had baked a loaf of bread whose wafting aroma could not be "observed" or "ignored".
It was a MAHA awakening emerging from the brahmari state and seeing " a lot of peeps in da house". All manifested by the power of intention & a little thing called the Internet.
The uncanny diffusion of info via the web was re-inforced when I started chatting with attendees in the 2 potluck lines ; yes, there was enough food brought for everyone. I met a couple from Japan ,a "just arrived in town" tourist from Mexico , Eve ex-Austinite now Venice CA resident plus the large contingent from YogaMeet-Up. Funny hearing "I read about it on this blog called MahaMondo ." For reals!
And with the good vibes & positive energy, the potluck flowed into Arthur Klein's screening, which brought in another surge of peeps / yogis. Several of the media & conscious web retailers present were Felicia Tomasko , Editor: LA Yoga Magazine, Kasey "Karuna" Luber, Director: YogaMates & Michael Perricone : OmStream.
It was my second time to view the film. This round however, the voices & visions of LA Yoga beacons & in my industry parlance " brand ambassadors " Gurmukh, Shiva Rea ( surfin' with her longboard ) Bryan Kest & Saul David Raye resonated to me. Ex-WWF wrestler, now yoga instructor & author Diamond Dallas Page's segments were a big hit. High Q rating ! Big up pranam to you for SEVA , spreading the OM to our troops in Iraq.
Arthur's film showed that in spite of all the divergent styles of teachers & studios, at the end of the day, all paths do end up on a yoga mat. Inspiration indeed.
Props to you Arthur for the shout out at the screening . This "poquito" blog's mission statement from its inception almost a year ago was to COMMUNICATE, INFORM & INSPIRE via a CONTEMPORARY setting but always referencing TRADITION.
The other benefit to this SATSANG was the opportunity to imbibe & be with friends from MySpace & SMPY: Lonnie, Esther ( Yo sweetness!) , Jody, Sara & Marcus ( YogiChocolate ) , D , Lorin, Scott ( just back from Hong Kong and yup, Pure Yoga's studio in Central does look like $ 1 MM) & Teresa H., in from Mallorca.Yogastania does exist.
