Jorgen C : Classic Baddha Konasana Adjustment

IMG00025-20100228-1143 It was just last year that Jerome M. had mentioned that Jorgen Christiansson would be teaching a "classic " led class at a new Santa Monica studio. This came at a junction when I was starting to look for a more traditional format of practice ; with a focus on a teacher-student relationship.

I had heard a lot about Jorgen and his experience with asana & adjustment , but was a bit intimidated to attend his class at Maha Yoga Brentwood . Compund this with his being one of the select teachers on the shortlist of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute .

However, after attending his 1st class at Yogis Anonymous , I've become a regular student , endeavoring whenever I am in town to " Practice and all is coming " with him .

It is a  blessing to learn from a teacher with a strong stamp of lineage , with an emphasis on structure , breath, count & asana. His teacher was known during his younger years for a fluency in strong adjustments , and Jorgen can adjust -

The pic above was taken after this morning's led class. It illustrates a classic adjustment for Baddha Konasana ; an asana traditional texts say can destroy disease & reduce fatigue.

On a physical level , adjustments serve to help one go deeper into the pose in conjunction with the expansive breath. The mental & spiritual benefits are the resulting openness & surrender . And it is in the surrender that self-realization & glimpses of the union with the Divine occur .
