I was reading Rumi last night and this verse just wowed me.

“A voice speaks to your clarity.

Move into the moment of your death.

Consider what you truly want.

Now call out commands to yourself.

You are the queen*. Phrase your own question,

and expect the grace of an answer.”

I have done this before, when I’m feeling lost in the muck of life: envision what, exactly, I want to be remembered for when I’m gone. I think this is a helpful way to look at our lives sometimes~ with the long view. What is really important and how can I move closer to that which is most important to me? Is my day to day life supporting that vision?

Even if you aren’t a resolution person, perhaps this New Year might be a good time to reflect on the long view. Maybe this year is the year to start moving toward what you truly want. Forget the last five pounds (okay, not really). But, “Phrase your question, and expect the grace of an answer.”

*note: this was King in the original poem.
