As a backgrounder , ( and to enlighten those who are not cognizant as to why the words "power & yoga" can be strung together ) , Bryan started his practice in HI in 1979 with David Williams in the 2nd Ashtanga class in the world outside India. He subsequently moved to Mysore in order to study with Sri Pattabhi Jois before rock stars and celebs started making the trek.
You can also credit him with taking the rigorous and series-centric structure of Ashtanga and adapting it to what became known as "power yoga" or currently " vinyasa flow". He's the OG. This adaptation , in my case, provided an intro to the practice and led to a desire to learn more.
Why "Power"? It is directed at creating the highest level of energy ( shakti) , vitality & freedom ( jivana-mukti) ; eventually to unlock the teacher within -
