There are several claims that practicing yoga can help increase the muscle strength of a person. It strengthens the muscles and joints in the back and abdominal muscles, which are but two of the most vital elements of the spine’s muscular network which works to help the person obtain a proper posture.Yoga can also aid relaxation. It is said to alleviate pains and stress not only in the muscles, but in the entire body. This benefit is made possible by the yoga movements that involve stretching, as well as for the breathing exercises which are done throughout the practice.

Most of all, the practice of yoga will make you aware that your body has its own limitations. Knowing this fact will help you prevent all sorts of injuries and bodily imperfections knowing that you already know what and what not to do.

And, of course Yoga (postures) is the prcess of moving some things while absolutely NOT moving (stabilizing) others.

Perhaps the greatest benefit from the practice of yoga (not postures or asana but Yoga) is knowing the Self. Does it get any better than that?

physical benefits: Creates a toned, flexible, and strong body. Improves respiration, energy, and vitality. Helps to maintain a balanced metabolism. Promotes cardio and circulatory health. Relieves pain. Helps you look and feel younger than your age. Improves your athletic performance.

mental benefits: Helps you relax and handle stressful situations more easily. Teaches you how to quiet the mind so you can focus your energy where you want it to go - into a difficult yoga pose, on the tennis court or golf course, or in the office. Encourages positive thoughts and self-acceptance.

spiritual benefits: Builds awareness of your body, your feelings, the world around you, the needs of others. Promotes an interdependence between mind, body, and spirit. Helps you live the concept of "oneness."
