The article describes a technique we often suggest for our corporate clients: coaching. Top medical centers have started using health coaches to work one-on-one with patients, and the results are compelling. In one study, "people who received health coaching were exercising 3.7 days a week--two days a week more than when they started--and had an average 10-point drop in cholesterol." The group receiving just standard checkups "barely budged."
While it certainly can't replace traditional medical treatment, coaching does provide motivation--one of the keys to long-term success. Many of our clients have found that offering one-on-one coaching for their employees has improved participation and retention rates.
