One of our favorite local clients just wrapped up an eight-week Healthy Habits Challenge , and it was great fun. This company has such an amazing commitment to wellness, and it's always encouraging to see how engaged their employees are. Almost everyone who joined the challenge two months ago stuck with it to the end.
For each of the past eight weeks, participants focused on a different healthy habit, such as drinking more water, getting more exercise, or eating more fruits and vegetables. We offered onsite workshops each week, always pertaining to that week's featured habit.
We raffled off a lot of fun prizes at the wrap-up event, but I believe participants were most interested in the health benefits.
Clients often ask us what incentives work best. While direct financial incentives are effective (some companies actually hand out cash as a reward for participating in a health screening), money alone will not drive long-term participation. Unless you're Goldman Sachs, you probably can't afford to hand out cash forever.
High-engagement programs share several core values: trust, respect, teamwork, recognition, and honest communication. I believe that staying true to these values is the key to the long-term success of any wellness program.
Congratulations to everyone who completed the Healthy Habits Challenge, and I look forward to reporting their next success story!
