60 minutes ran a segment (Fast Food For Thought) on fast food chains required to list the calorie count of the food they serve on their menu boards. What a concept. It might make you think twice about what you are ordering. Or open your eyes to the fact that your favorite food item might be higher than you thought in terms of calories.

The New York City health commissioner — the same official who led the smoking ban and trans fats ban in restaurants in the city — is working on a regulation to require the restaurants who already offer nutritional information about their menu choices online, to post that information clearly when and where consumers order the meal. California Governor Schwarzenegger already vetoed a similar bill in his state.

Your best bet — check out the calorie, fat and nutritional content BEFORE you walk out for lunch or a snack. Here are some direct links to nutritional guides for your favoriate fast food restaurants:

Burger King
Cosi
McDonald’s
Pizza Hut
Subway
Starbucks
Wendy’s
