I've had a nice birth on each shift, the past two days I've worked. Yeah!! Before that, I had two demises in a row. Granted, I chose the two demises as my assignments, because I honestly don't mind having them.
However, it was very nice to have live births for a change :-)
Both births were multips. One was a successful VBAC (her second VBAC), and was a very calm, soothing, non-hurried atmosphere. It was totally different than her first VBAC, which apparently had fetal distress at the end of the labor, and necessitated a vacuum and episiotomy. Her VBAC this time around, however, there was no distress, she pushed beautifully, and had very minimal tearing. She also had a midwife this time - one who wasn't pushing her to PUSH PUSH PUSH as hard as she could - and her perineum stretched beautifully.
