The economy has everyone worried today and everyday the news seems to get worse. However, women may be reacting more strongly than men. A recent survey from the American Psychological Association (APA) stated women are expressing fear about the current financial situation more than men. Women are also reporting physical and psychological symptoms, including sleep disturbances, headaches, mood swings, changes in appetite, exhaustion and depression. Women are more likely to report unhealthy behaviors, including eating poorly and excessive shopping and napping as a response to stress. A recent report came out in the news that there are more women in the workforce now as more men have lost their jobs in the last few months. Women now have the financial responsibilities to support their families and generally have the traditional household responsibilities falling on their shoulders. Since the current situation will probably be around for a while, it is important to manage the stress. Take care of yourself, eat well, exercise, if possible, and be sure to take a multivitamin. Take a little time out of each day to focus on yourself.
