Why does my right hand constantly swell?

For the last couple of months my right hand has continuously been swelling.  It hurts between my thumb and index finger and I constantly have my husband massage that specific area.  No other area on that hand hurts.  I don't drink any sodas because I have irritable bowel syndrome so my drinks are limited to water, juice, and milk only.  I am 31 yrs old.
