What kind of a virus?

I have a small pimple sized bump on the left side of my right thumb knuckle. It is not red but normal flesh color. My doctor says that it is a virus and she shouldn't freeze it off. It is painful only when I hit it on something but that happens everytime I drive just about, and other times. She said it may or may not go away. I hope it does.
