This is one score on a bone mineral density test. It compares a persons bone density with that of the average BMD of a similar person. A score of above -2 is considered to be normal, whereas a score of less than -2 is seen as having a decreased bone density.

A low bone mass means you will have to have some more tests to see why your bone mass is low.  A low Z-score (if it is below 2.0) may be  a warning sign that you have less bone mass and/or may be losing bone more rapidly than expected for someone your age. Your Dr may send you to an osteoporosis specialist. -NJ
