My mom has cellulitis an infection below the skin on her leg. She was hit by a car 5 years ago and has had surgery to repair the bone. She has pins holding her leg together. She has not been feeling well since the accident and her blood work always shows low red blood cells. Her leg has constantly swelled during the past years but this past week her bottom leg swelled up around the knee and it turned red and very hot to the touch. Is it possible that she could get an infection with the pins after so many years. Her leg is extremely painful around the knee she says that it feels like a spike poking her. Can anyone make sense of all this?
