Welcome and Introductions

Posted Oct 18 2008 8:14pm

I am a Masters level psychotherapist working at a community mental health center in the loop. I earned my Masters of Arts in Clinical Psychology a few years ago and I’m 6 months away from earning my doctorate. I’m doing individual therapy and couple’s therapy. I’m a behavioral health consultant once a week working with physicians and patients at a medical center. I’m supervising junior trainees, I’m teaching at Adler School of Professional Psychology. Interestingly enough, my life has recently taken an unexpected twist as I have opened my own Mary Kay business. I am learning so much about skin care, anti-aging products, cosmetics and spa products in addition to entering the world of sales, marketing and business. It’s absolutely fascinating, especially given that my background, training and expertise are in psychology. So how does this all relate?

I realized that providing therapy is one of my ultimate passions and training students to be future psychologists is amazing, but I’m only sharing what I’ve learned with one person at a time. And there are tons of people that could use a hand from time to time! What I love most, and have the most experience in, is women’s issues. What exactly are "women’s’ issues" you say? Women’s issues can be a lot of things, but what I’ve realized over the years of doing clinical work is that most healthy women struggle with a few global issues, mainly stress and lack of time. This tends to happen because women are so good at taking care of everyone else besides themselves. Sound familiar? For some of us, that tendency is pretty much in our blood, but for all of us, we have been molded and conditioned to be that way from the time we were born. So it sometimes takes quite a bit of conscious effort to learn how to take care of ourselves. I know that’s been the case for me!

Because of my extensive training in human behavior, thoughts and emotions, my expertise in skin care and cosmetics AND the fact that I am a very busy woman, I feel like I am in a unique position to offer some help and insight into how women can learn to decrease their stress, use their time more effectively and, most importantly, take care of themselves in a healthy way. So what you’ll find on this site are ways to decrease stress, increase time management skills, get the inside scoop on cutting edge skin care and cosmetics, and learn ways to improve your overall health that have nothing to do with diet and exercise. Cheers!
