New research suggests that for children, just being overweight increases the risk of being bullied. Factors that usually play a role in the risk of being bullied, such as gender, race and family income levels, don’t seem to matter, it is the overweight issue that is a target. The study found that being overweight increased the risk of being the target of bullying by 63 percent. Even though about 50% of kids are overweight in the U.S., researchers thought that weight would not be an issue, since it is commonplace, however, studies have shown weight is a factor in most cases. If you have a child that is overweight, ask them frequently how school is, research also found that 25% of children, never report the bullying.
