Too Busy To Exercise? Shop and Walk at the Same Time

I was recently at a local shopping mall late one evening and I saw 2 women in their exercise clothes power walking around the mall. I congratulated them on their initiative and they had said that they finished their shopping early and decided to walk to get in their exercise. In the winter with the unpredictable weather, walking inside a mall is a great way to consistently get your exercise. Right now, malls are open early as well as open late at night. Walking for 15-45 minutes can help you burn extra calories to counteract some of the holiday treats you consume. For example, if you walk for 15 minutes at a pace of a 15-minute mile and you weigh 150 pounds, you will burn 85 calories. If you stretch it to 30 minutes, you burn 170 calories and 45 minutes will burn 255 calories. If you burn an additional 255 calories, that is enough to drink one or two glasses of wine depending upon the size of the glass or one brownie or 5 small holiday cookies. Plus, walking will help you reduce your stress level at his time of year. So if you can, take advantage of your time at the mall this season.
