Time flies when you're having fun

Posted Jun 25 2012 11:57am
It's been a busy few weeks. When you see you're booked halfway through June, in early May - it can feel like a blessing, overwhelming and inspiring all at once. A friend once said, "I feel like I'm always juggling and sometimes (ok a lot of times) I end up dropping the ball". That's so me! I never want to complain because this is after all, the life and lifestyle I chose for myself. This is how I function best. This is also the speed at which most of my close friends are at also. We're all out there creating and making the best out of every opportunity.

So let me recap some of the highlights of the last few weeks, here is Part 1:
#fitblogNYC  Fitness Blogger Meet and Tweet
Wednesday, May 9, 2012
Thanks to an invitation by the Latina Lifestyle Bloggers group  and fifluential , I was able to sneak out in the middle of a busy work day to attend the first Fitness Bloggers Meet & Tweet by Fitness Magazine. I knew it was going to be a great event when one of the first faces I saw was my old friend Bitchcakes . I also made some new  friends like Melissa  while in line to get my hands on some amazing swag from Reebok, Camelback, Oakley and Birkenstock. Even soccer star Mia Hamm, was there! A great event with great speakers who reinforced the great work we all do in spreading health and wellness. One line that still resonates with me (and with you now hopefully) is, " you can't outrun a poor diet or lack of sleep ", because being healthy isn't just about one thing only!

Tamika and Friends Inc., NY Chapter's First Annual Free Cervical Cancer Screening Event
Sunday, May 19, 2012
As part of National Women's Health Week, the NY chapter of Tamika & Friends , along with the amazing generosity of the staff at the department of Gynecological-Oncology at Columbia University Medical Center, opened their doors and were able to provide free pap screens and treatment to over 25 women that morning. Thank you Dr. Jason D. Wright, MD and your colleagues for opening your doors and donating your time that morning. A big thank you also to Patti Murillo-Casa, President of the NY Chapter, for organizing such a successful event.

LATISM-NY McDonald's Metro Nutrition Network Tweet-Up
Thursday, May 31, 2012
About 30 press and social media influencers were invited to join LATISM (Latinos In Social Media) and McDonald's in a discussion on healthier menu options available. A tasting was also available. Am I completely happy with McDonald's....come on you know the answer to that! But, I will give them credit for reaching out to the Latino community to address the obesity epidemic currently affecting every ethnic group. This tweet-up reinforced things I already believe in, like the choice is ultimately yours. If you chose to go to McDonald's because it's convenient, the price is right, or because you're craving a Big Mac, then the choice is yours as to what and how much you ultimately put in your mouth. The water, grilled chicken sandwiches, smoothies, and salads (some of which I got to taste at the event) are all there. You just have to choose to order them. Also take a look online, or look at the nutritional fact sheets that they have to see at the very minimum, what the fat, sugar and salt content is of everything - especially if you are say a diabetic, or have any other potentially life-threatening condition. An occasional splurge here and there is ok. Overeating and indulging at McDonald's or in your own cocina is just no bueno.

Cosmo for Latinas, Mamiverse.com & Ouidad Salon celebrate curly hair
Tuesday, May 22, 2012
I saw this event and knew I had to go. Why? Because I have naturally curly hair which I blow dry straight at least twice a week.  Still, if you were to put me in a humid environment, watch out - Puerto Rican problems! My hair starts to grow like a chia pet. My Latina and even some of my Italian girlfriends can sympathize and know exactly what I'm talking about. No one wants to blow dry their hair all summer long, so if I'm going to be daring enough to wear my hair curly in public, I wanted some Ouidad products to make it look great.  I met stylist Cyriano, who taught us how to use specific products like Climate Control and also how to properly use a diffuser. I saw some of my girlfriends, talked with some of the sweet women behind Cosmo for Latinas and Mamiverse.com, sipped some champagne and left with a gift bag full of great stuff to try. A successful night if I do say so myself.

Let's see what this week brings us all. My Motivation Monday key words for the week are, to be open to infinite possibilities!

Let's also see how long it takes for me to post Part 2!
