Many people have tried fad or starvation diets to lose weight. It is no secret that fad dieting causes hunger and deprivation. But isn’t that what we are supposed to do? NO!! Starvation diets also cause a slowdown in metabolism. In many cases, once people fall off of these diets they go back to eating they overdo it and binge eat. A balanced diet that mimics real life will result in the best overall solution for weight loss and long-term result weight control.
A “diet” should not be looked at as a temporary thing. It is a long-term solution, your “diet” is the way in which you eat. A good diet doesn’t ban or avoid certain foods but allows foods in moderation and controls portions. If certain foods are banned it results in deprivation followed by binge eating. Moderation is the key.
If you allow yourself a chance to have treats now and then, you will not feel deprived. Here are a few examples of how you can enjoy treats without derailing your progress while you are wanting to lose weight.
Have a few bites of the food you would like: pizza, ice cream, etc. to satisfy you.
Share a dessert
When at a restaurant, make a deal with yourself on portion limits before you get there. Decide to have half a roll or piece of bread. Take only a few bites of the foods you feel like you are depriving yourself from.
Order a low calorie drink to fill you up if others are eating in front of you.
Look for lite, low carb or low-fat version selections to save calories.
