Slow Metabolism Got You Down?

Posted Nov 02 2008 12:00am

Many of us feel we have a slow metabolism and are stuck with it. As we age, are we destined to gain weight? No, we actually we can do something about it. Increasing metabolism is a process and it takes time. Here are a few things that you can do to begin to have your body burn more calories for you everyday.

  • Increase lean muscle mass by 5-10 pounds by weight resistance training and you can burn approximately 100 calories more each day.
  • Try intensity workouts - alternate a few minutes moderate intensity exercise with 30 seconds high intensity effort. You can burn an extra 100-200 calories.
  • Ger enough sleep - lack of sleep can decrease the number of calories your body burns just resting like performing the basic necessities of life, like pumping blood, breathing and repairing damaged tissues.
  • Eat low calorie snacks often - each time you eat, you stimulate your metabolism for a short period of time, which means that the more often you eat, the more you’ll increase your metabolism.
  • Omega-3 fatty acids found only in fish oil, may have the power to dramatically boost your metabolism by about 400 calories per day.
  • Keep your body moving - if you are moving you are burning calories.
