Recipe: Fresh Tomato Juice Bloody Mary

I rarely make cocktails at home.  My husband doesn’t drink, which makes me the default lush of the family.  There are times when the stars align and a cocktail makes perfect sense.  Today the weather was gorgeous.  My CSA handed out extra tomatoes and I needed to use them before they went bad.

Bloody Marys are a savory tooth’s dream.  I usually have them as a special treat out at brunch, but with extra tomatoes, a juicer, perfect weather on a Saturday afternoon, magazines that needed reading, and a patio with a comfy couch – I couldn’t resist.

I had never had a bloody mary with fresh tomato juice before – it’s completely delicious.

Fresh Tomato Juice
Bloody Mary With Fresh Tomato Juice Garnished With Fennel Fronds

6 ounces tomato juice (I used fresh)
2 ounces vodka
1/4 teaspoon celery salt
1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce (I omitted)
1/8 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
1 lemon wedge
1 celery stick or fennel frond to garnish

Mix tomato juice, vodka, worcestershire, and spices together and pour over ice.  Garnish with lemon and celery/fennel and serve.  Enjoy!
