On January 1st of this year, I made a resolution to lose weight. Something just "clicked" inside of me that I couldn't go on like this. I guess I had gotten to the point where I needed to feel good about myself, and the only way that was going to happen was if I changed the way I looked—lose the weight. So when I saw my first NutriSystem infomercial, I decided then and there I was going to do it.
In the beginning, my husband was very skeptical, but I went ahead and ordered my food anyway. At first, the fact that I could eat all this food and still lose weight just didn't sink in. In the past, I was someone who skipped breakfast and lunch, so all this food came as quite a shock! But I think my favorite thing about the program is the fact that I get the food sent right to my door and all I have to do is heat it up or add water to it. I love that it is so healthy for me, too!
Since losing more than 50 pounds, I have more self-esteem and am paying more attention to what I wear and how I look, and I just feel fantastic about myself. I'm also more open to doing things.
Before, I was having some back problems that I'm sure were related to being overweight, which made my stamina somewhat limited. But now I have more energy to get out there and just do it! My husband and I are retired and we like to travel. We have a 31-foot travel trailer and love to camp and prospect for gold. Yes, prospect for gold! It's something my husband became interested in about two years ago. He starting watching Gold Fever on the Outdoor channel and we read up on the history of gold mining and were fascinated by it. We have since traveled to Georgia, out west to Arizona, and into the mountains of North Carolina to prospect.
Here's what Maureen's husband of 39 years, Stan, thinks about her weight loss with NutriSystem.
"I thought this was just another quick diet scheme like so many she had tried before. Boy, was I wrong! I'm very proud of what she has accomplished and am amazed at the new Mo. Her entire mental being has changed—she is now happy with herself and is doing more 'away from home' activities. And it goes without saying how good she looks!" – Stan
In addition, now we're getting into 4-wheeling, too, and my husband just recently purchased a 4-wheeler for me. (We previously had one 4-wheeler, but my husband finally figured it was time that I had my own toy!)
I can say that this time, I am determined to keep the weight off. I have gained and lost in the past, but with my new understanding of nutrition and exercise, I will be keeping the weight off for the rest of my life. And I have had nothing but positive feedback from everyone in my life. My family lives in Massachusetts and we recently visited them. They were all amazed at the difference in me, both physically and mentally. And I have cousins who are visiting me now who haven't seen me in three years and can't get over how good I look. (I might even convince my cousin to give NutriSystem a try before she leaves!)
Has it been a challenge—losing all the weight? Well, yes. You have to reprogram your eating habits and exercise. But I think it is more of a challenge to keep going the way you're going and putting on the weight and risking all sorts of health problems that put you in danger of not having a longer, more productive life.
And as for the results? Let's just say, I used to avoid the camera like the plague. Now, I don't mind having my pictures taken. In general, I just feel good about myself. — Mo
