It's been a bit since I blogged last....sorry about that. Life has been a bit hectic, what with getting ready for the big move. Life on the Vulvodynia front has been pretty static. Not much change except that now my PT is telling me I have to go get a biopsy done for a skin condition called Lichen sclerosis. I haven't had a chance to read too much on it just yet but from what I gather it causes a shrinkage of the inner labia as well as the vaginal opening. This may be the catalyst that cause the rest of my muscle and nerve problems. My doctor is still positive that the nerves are a huge factor in in my condition but now this skin condition is added into the mix.
The treatement for this is a round of steroids for a, yet to be determined amount of time. You can imagine my feelings about this. I just got off of the Gabapentin, the idea of putting more drugs into my body is not a happy thought. Not to mention the fact that in order to figure out if I even have this condition I have to have a piece of my vulva cut out. Can anyone say OUCH!?
The game plan as of now is to wait until I get moved and then contact a specialist there who will more or less take over my care. Its kind of nice to not have to worry about it much right now. I have been seeing my PT regularly since I have been home, i love her she rocks. I will miss having her to work out all my tender spots throughout my body. She can pretty much get any knot out of the muscle.
I will post again soon explaining this lichen sclerosis when I have a little more info on it.
