Is brown discharge normal after two weeks of period?

Posted by girlygirl

Two weeks after my period I've been discharging brown. It has already been 4 days and I'm still discharging. It's really starting to worry me. I took a pregnancy test 2 days ago just to make sure and it came back negative. I am in no pain and there isn't an odor to it. I just want to know if this is normal or if I should go to a doctor??

Irregular menses is quite common.  Stress, weight change, thyroid activity, etc can affect your menses.  Depending upon how much & how quickly your uterine lining is shedding, it can vary from bright red (if qucik) to dark brown (if slow).  Lack of pain & odor are both good points to note.  Over-the-counter pregnancy tests are quite accurate these days but usually best used after missing your expected period.  So if your test was negative just 2 weeks after your last menses, it's still possible for you to be pregnant (implantation can cause spotting) so you might want to consider repeating the test after your next (missing/absent?) menses.

One other point:  if you're not using any form of contraception, then I assume you want to get pregnant?  And even if you don't want to get pregnant, you should still consider making your partner wear a condom to prevent transmmission of sexual infections (birth control pills don't prevent STDs).  Good luck!
