Is a brown menstrual period normal?

I am a 44 year old women. A year ago I had a Cryo Freeze of my uterus, due to heavy periods. My periods became light and were on a 21 day cycle. For the past several months they have become irreguler, my last period was June 10, I have had cramps in the lower back, and today I have a brown sticky discharge.. Does it mean I am going to start, or is it just left over blood? I do have a Doc appointment next wed. Thanks
