I'm not a urologist so I can't tell you anything about percutaneous nephrolithotripsy or PCNL. However, if you want to do your own research, I found plenty of reputable sites by just searching for the term "PCNL". Even better yet, whenever you (anyone) has a concern about some procedure, it's best to address your questions with the physician who is recommending the procedure for you. Make sure you understand why it's being recommended. Ask about risks, benefits & alternatives. In other words, what will happen if you choose to decline the procedure. Also find out how many of these procedures your physician has personally performed (and his/her success & complications rates, as well as those of the hospital or outpatient surgery center). Assuming that your PCNL will be performed in the latter, make sure that it meets national certification standards. Lastly, if you're scared, tell your surgeon. It's his/her role to relieve you & comfort you. Good luck!
