High risk

Posted Jul 07 2008 7:17pm
I've recently taken care of several high risk pregnancy/postpartum women. Some were definitely high risk - while others were pseudo-high risk.

Cardiomyopathy, with an ejection fraction of less than 25%. Yes, you are WAY high risk.

"Preeclampsia" with blood pressures in the 110-130's/60-80's. Started magnesium sulfate, but held the Labetolol. No headache (had one earlier), no other s/s of preeclampsia. A big WTF???

Preterm labor contractions, on mag sulfate already, keeps getting turfed back to L&D for increases and boluses of mag, to quiet the contractions down. We get the contractions to go away, and turf her back to antepartum. Who then turfs her back to us on L&D the next day for "increased contractions." ::sigh::

Ahhh, the life of a L&D nurse.
