Fad Diets Can Make You Fat!

Have you ever been at the point of no return with your weight? You know how it is, you can’t stand the way you feel or look in your clothes? What’s the first instinct? Go on a starvation diet, right? Wrong. Although it is true you can lose a few pounds quickly but it’s not the right way to lose weight in the long run. You cannot lose significant weight by starvation, it lowers the metabolism so you gain back even more when you go back to eating normally.

I checked out some of the popular fad diets just to get a laugh and to see how ridiculous some of these can be. I found one called the Lemonade Diet. It calls for lemonade mixed with maple syrup and cayenne pepper. You drink about 160 ounces per day. Some of the side effects are diarrhea and dizziness. The problem with this is that you don’t eat any real food. Your body will start breaking down its own muscle as a protein source. In the end you will end up with more body fat. I also checked out the Hollywood Diet. They sell a juice consisting of pineapple, orange, apple, prune, white grape and lemon juices that you drink all day long. There is no food at all. They recommend it following the diet for 48 hours at a time to lose 5-7 pounds. Guess what, same thing with this diet, no food and no protein. And actually depending upon how much of the juice you drink, you might gain weight from the sugar and carbs.  

So the point of this discussion is, don’t follow fad diets to lose weight. They can leave you sick and unhealthy with a loss of vital nutrients. A diet that utilizes real food is best so you feel strong. Also remember that exercise is important to burn calories and increase lean muscle mass.
