Embarrassing beauty blunders solved! Part 1

Posted Jul 21 2012 10:22am

This post is sponsored by Dove® ClearTone™ Deodorant - designed to visibly reduce underarm dark marks and even skin tone.

Who hasn't had a moment when they've stepped back from the mirror in complete horror from what you just did to yourself. Let me help you stop the madness with some of my favorite beauty tricks.

Your went Edward Scissorhands on your eyebrows.
Not everyone has the time or budget to get regular eyebrow waxes. Certain medications can even make you more sensitive to wax, leaving you with burns or red marks that will have people staring at you for all the wrong reasons. If you've plucked a little too much, here's what to do. First, slap your tweezer-happy hand and repeat, "less is more". Second, get out a eyebrow brush, cuticle scissors and an eyebrow pencil or powder a shade lighter and darker than your hair color.

Brush your eyebrow in a back and downward angle. Trim excess hair using your cuticle scissors from below and use your tweezers to get those strays from above your eyebrow. I know many people say don't do it from above - but sorry I break that rule all the time in order to get a smooth line. Take your eyebrow brush and make a parallel line from the edge of your nostril. That's where your eyebrow should begin. Mark a line going through or at the edge of your pupil, that's where your arch, or the highest part of your eyebrow will be. Make a diagonal line from the edge of your nostril and tweeze any offending hairs that go beyond that line. It's not a race, so don't be afraid to pause constantly and check out your progress. Use your eyebrow pencil or powder to fill in any sparse areas using light brushstrokes. Play with the colors and blend to get a perfect match.

I have been plucking & shaping my own eyebrows successfully for years now.

You decided you didn't need that extra layer of skin.
You went tanning or you stepped out without putting on any sunscreen. So no one has to hear your muffled cries of pain when anything gets even remotely near your torched skin, get your hands on some aloe and apply liberally to the affected areas as soon as possible. It forms a protective shield on your skin, sealing in moisture that will help to cool and calm your skin. In order to speed the healing process, keep applying aloe for the next few days. Por favor, make sure your also apply a base coat of sunscreen first so no one takes your picture and photoshops the word "FAIL" over your body - like this.

Not cute at all!!

Your teeth look like Flavor Flav's...but you're not wearing gold caps.

Nothing beats seeing a great dentist who will professionally clean and whiten your teeth. I've dabbled with many different teeth whiteners, from over the counter brands, to professional ones given to me by my dentist. An old trick I do only before interviews or an important photo shoot, is mix one teaspoon of baking soda with a few drops of water or hydrogen peroxide. Brush your teeth gently for about two minutes. Rinse well with your favorite mouthwash. Do I have to remind you not to do this everyday? Many teeth whiteners and even baking soda can be abrasive, causing increased sensitivity and damage to your teeth enamel when not used properly. Your smile is like your greeting card to the world, so don't forget to take care of your teeth.
