Have you been sucked into the coconut water rage? What is coconut water? It is a new processed water that has been showing up in stores and online. It is supposed to be the new energy water, packed full of electrolytes and specifically, potassium. However, the coconut water has 45-60 calories per 8 oz. cup and 10-15 grams of carbs per 8 oz. cup. Coconut water is sold in 11 to 16 oz. packages so if you drink the entire package you are in for at least 100 calories or more and 20 grams of carbs or more. Though it is often advertised as a natural sports drink, you can probably get the same post-workout benefit from drinking water or low calorie Powerade or G2. If you are watching your weight or trying tolose weight, it will slow you down and add more calories to your diet. I’ve decided to forego, the coconut water trend, if I am going to take in 100 calories, I’d rather eat it, not drink it.
