I have a job! It's still in the pre-contract stages, but it's a CNM position! It's being held for me, and they are super excited to have me start.
It's a totally new concept type of position for a CNM at this particular hospital. It will be a midwife hospitalist position. I was just talking with the head of the women's services, and he is super excited to be bringing this innovative new position to the women's services.
We will be ironing out the details in the coming months, but basically I will be doing all hospital OB triage. I will also be attending births. I will be doing some first assisting for c-sections as well.
At this point, it will be all hospital-based midwifery care. No clinic or prenatal care. Which I will admit is a bummer, because I do also enjoy providing high quality midwifery prenatal care.
I am SO super excited to be a part of a new age in bringing expanded midwifery care to women in my area!
On another note, I am also applying for the Doctorate of Nursing Practice. (Yes, I think I am insane to do it. But yet, I'm doing it!) I'm playing with the ideas in my head for my Capstone project for the DNP program -- perhaps, Centering Pregnancy in the low income clinic setting. Or peer counselors to increase breastfeeding rates and duration in a low income/low socioeconomic urban area.
