Caring for Your Eyes

Posted Nov 21 2008 4:50pm
At age 40, eyesight begins to deteriorate. With those people living longer lives, the frequency of vision-impairing eye disease is increasing in women. If we could be proactive about eye health, it could help lessen the problems.

Studies show that a lutein-rich diet can build eye immunity, and reduce the risk of macular degeneration. What is macular degeneration? It is one of the most common and incurable diseases of the eye. Dark leafy vegetables like spinach as well as tomatoes, peaches and carrots have a high lutein content.

Prolonged exposure to bright light weakens the eyes. When you have to out on a bright sunny day, wear a cap, bring an umbrella or wear sunglasses to protect your eyes. Make sure your shades are UV protected. Like our teeth, our eyes need regular check-ups too.
