Brown Discharge help!!

Okay so about 3 days ago my discharge just randomly turned brown. It happens sometimes after my period but my period is about a week and a half away. I'm 19 and I just started birth control almost a month ago. I do have sex but with one person and i know for a fact he doesn't have any STDs. Why am I having this brown discharge?
