Book List: Teaching kids about healthy living

Posted Feb 18 2011 7:51am

Have you ever been in the middle of what you thought was a great teaching moment only to realize your child’s not actually looking at you, they’re looking right through you, lost in thought as you preach on?  I have to admit, this has happened to me more than once.  I can stop talking, wave my hand in front of their face, and nothing.  They’ve tuned me out.

Luckily, I’ve discovered some great childrens books to help engage them in fun activities that deliver the same messages without the blank stares.  Here are some of our favorites:

  • Charlie & Lola: We are extremely very good recyclers by Lauren Child
  • The Lorax by Dr. Seuss
  • The Curious Garden by Peter Brown
  • Kids’ Fun & Healthy Cookbook by Nicola Graimes
  • Roots, Shoots, Buckets & Boots by Sharon Lovejoy
  • Jack’s Garden by Henry Cole
  • The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle
  • The Busy Body Book by Lizzy Rockwell
  • Oh The Things You Can Do That Are Good For You from Cat in the Hat’s Learning Library
  • D.W. the Picky Eater by Marc Brown
  • Thank You, World by Alice B. McGinty

What’s on your book list?
