could cause even worse problems with the eye than the apparent infection you are describing... You should be reluctant to use any preparation for the eyes unless you have been directed...
Can you be more explicit in how the eye looks? Did he bump into something? Bitten by a bug? It's hard to tell how to answer when I can't see the eye. You may want to take your dog to your vet
We can not help if we don't know more details then just a swollen eye...   She may need to take the dog to a veterinay opthomologist....
I'm not sure exactly what you're describing here, but it might be the conjunctiva, the tissue between the base of the eyeball and the edge of the lower lid. This can become infected for different reasons...
