In 1996 I had both of my hips replaced due to AVN (Avascular Necrosis). Simply put, my blood vessels clogged and no longer fed my hips so the bones crumbled and needed to be repaced. Dear Dr. Henry, thanks for your replies re avascular necrosis. The good news -- sort of -- that I got from my new orthopedist is that it is unlikely to be a side effect of meds or of hiv itself; it is more likely the result of trauma (slipping on the ice last winter). This new info means that I don't have to consider...crap

My question is would Avascular Necrosis be covered by the ADA? AVN is a new side effect thought to be caused by Protease inhibitors. Anyway, I will need total hip replacements of both hips within 5 years. Would the fact that getting a hip replacement MIGHT make my condition better exclude me from the ADA? I currently...crap

I have been diagnosed with avascular necrosis, and have had both hips, and 1 knee replaced... surgeries been on coumadin. Is there anything that can be done to slow the avascular necrosis down? I no longer take prednison on a daily basis. I am worried there will not be any healthly bones left in me...crap
