Protein

Go lean with protein.

Bake, broil and grill, don't fry or saute. Add more fish, beans, peas, nuts, and seeds.

Limit your eggs.

No more than 4 egg yolks per week -- they are high in saturated fat and cholesterol. But egg whites are fat free!

Limit your red meat.

A 2000 cal meal plan only needs 3 oz of meat for your daily protein requirement. Eating more meat will add unneeded saturated fats.

Nutrition

60/20/20.

While training, aim at eating a balance of 60% healthy carbohydrates, 20% lean protein, and 20% healthy fats.

Eat carefully.

Just before starting to workout, minimize fiber, protein and fat, which slow down digestion and could cause stomach issues.

Refuel.

For every hour beyond 90 minutes, aim at eating 1/2 gram of carbohydrates and up to 1/8 gram of protein per pound of lean body weight.
