For beginners

Alternate rest days

Run 3 - 4 days a week, and try to alternate between run days and rest days.

Follow the 10 percent rule

Do not increase your mileage more than 10 percent per week.

Preventing injury

Plan a rest week

Make every third or fourth week a rest week and cut back your mileage considerably.

Increase slowly

Do not increase your mileage more than 10 percent per week.

Training

Week of

Don't do much the week of the event. Get plenty of rest.

Pick your exercise

Do cardio

To keep healthy, do 30 minutes of cardio, most days of the week.
