colon cancer screening rates tipsWellTips

Technique

Warm up and stretch.

Prior to climbing, take a half hour to get your muscles and joints loosened up, and your heart rate elevated.

Tips

Drink up.

How much to drink depends on the type and intensity of exercise, your metabolic rate, body mass, and size, and the temperature and humidity.

Getting started

Check your pulse.

Use a heart rate monitor, or count the pulse at your wrist for 15 sec. and multiply by 4. Aim for 50-75% of your maximal heart rate.

Getting started

One pound a week.

A good rule of thumb for a sustainable rate of weight loss. If you are losing less than this, you are not really trying.

Start weight training.

In addition to aerobic exercise, weight training that builds muscle will boost your metabolic rate, and you will burn calories faster.

Gear

Heart rate monitor.

If you're a serious walker, you may want to buy a heart rate monitor to measure your exertion while you walk.
