how do you safely deal with the midnight munchies?

i always wake up in the middle of the night really hungry. eating that late makes me feel guilty but at the same time it's hard for me to fall back asleep when my stomach is grumbling. how do you guys deal with this problem, or do you even have this problem?

I drink a bottle of water. I know its not the same, but it curbs that pain so you can go back to sleep. Or you might try eating some low cal fruit, like honeydew or plum. Obviously, you aren't going to wake up at midnight and crave carrots, but just try to stay away from breads things with items.

Fiber is great!

I never woke up and headed for the fridge, but I do stay away from carbs. For me, eating carbs makes me more hungry, so I just stay away. I do eat some, like brown rice or whole grains, but none of that white flour/white sugar stuff.

At night, when I am totally in need of a snack - I have some reduced fat peanut butter, or almonds. I also will have some tea with a sweet and low. It fills you up, but is still low carb.
