Your Loss is Your Gain

This is a guest post by Ray Lehigh.

Al Pacino once said, “Vanity is my favourite sin”. And why shouldn’t it be? Everybody wants to look good. Everybody likes to look good. Because that makes each of us feel good. We all want to be healthy. Nobody wants to be dependent on constant medication, surgeries, acupressure and stuff like that. But then again everybody is working and most people spend their time sitting down and working in front of the computers where the only exercise we get is the couple of flights downstairs to have a smoke or a coffee. And by the time we get home, there is hardly enough time to spend with the family, let alone working out. We notice our clothes shrinking, the belt loosening and then finally, one day, we realize exactly how unfit we are when we run, hardly fifty metres should do the trick, and we end up huffing and panting and cursing and swearing. Swearing that from that moment on, we get our act together and lose some weight !!

There are plenty of weight loss programs out there with various celebrity endorsements and “100 % guarantee!!!” They all involve a healthy balance of watching what you eat, how often you eat and a particular exercise regime. It’s good that we have quite a few to choose from, so we can choose the best among the available options. Giving up on meat or dairy products or other specific foodstuffs may sound ridiculous to some. Diet meal plans are customized in a way that you would not require to give up on any food habit. So browse and choose the program that suits you the best.

The first one to be mentioned is the General Motors diet which was started by the management of the company when they started realizing that their employees were bending out of shape as they had slowly started to use more automated machines and less manual work. This diet involves eating specific foods per day which is designed to make you lose weight more rapidly.

Then it was Mediterranean Diet which was recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Italy, Spain, Greece, and Morocco. It involves high consumption of legumes, vegetables, fruits, unrefined cereals and olive oil as it has a high proportion of monounsaturated fats and antioxidants which do a lot of good things to our body. Moderate consumption of dairy products, fish and wine and low consumption of meat is also important.

We also have the South Beach Diet which was designed by cardiologist Arthur Agatston with the help of dietician Marie Almon in order to avoid heart ailments in his patients. But the word of the diet spread and it became famous as a good means of losing weight. The South Beach Diet is relatively simple in principle. It replaces “bad carbs” and “bad fats” with “good carbs” and “good fats.”

And finally, there is Detox diets which involve a juice fast, basically, assuming that all food is unhealthy compared to natural juices and drinks which are high in fibre and are effective in helping loss of fat.

There we have it folks, a variety of diets and if we look online, we’ll find a bunch more to choose from. There are no short cuts, though. No magic potions, no chants and precious stones will help in burning that fat. It does require a little hard work to make up for our lazy lives; but after a few months of real, hard work, when the pants are quite lose, that sense of pride will be worth it, for sure.
