I have been doing yoga for eight weeks now. I missed one because I wasn't feeling up to it and now know that it does feel goot to stretch my body out and really feel it. Like when I bend over and feel all the stomach fat in the way. I set out to try something new and out of the comfort zone and now feel that it has been a very good adventure. My feet don't hurt as much as they did the first time I tried it. I had bunion surgery on my feet each a year apart. May will be the one and two year marker for each foot. I am now going to try jogging. I went out and bought myself a good pair of jogging shoes and have been laughed at by my husband and children but am determined to give it a try. Have had extreme foot pain most of my life and have never felt good enough to try jogging as I always know the pain that comes for hours after standing, walking etc. brings. My feet feel like they have almost healed. I have been walking for the last few months on a regular bases and have not had any pain.
Monique, It sounds like you are starting an exciting new journey in your life. I admire your strength. It takes a lot of inner conviction to try new things especially in the face of the past problems you've had with your health. Keep up the good work. You're an inspiration.
I'm glad you've come here to get some positive support as you try out these new things. It makes me a little sad that your family laughed at you instead of cheering you on! Get all the tips you can from seasoned joggers and talk to your foot doctor as well, and I don't see why you cannot come out of your new adventure completely successful! As Mary Ann said, you are an inspiration, especially to those who might be afraid to try something new.
It's been a month since I commented the last time. I have tried jogging once! Just for a short time. I felt pretty good. My feed didn't hurt. I have been walking alot. I have now commited to a life coach. I feel it is one more step in being kind to myself. This is definetly a journey. I have gone to the Dr. and had all the blood work, etc. done and am doing quite well. Just need to drop the weight. Thanks for your encouregement. I will not be working till the fall and will take advantage of my time off to develop more good habits and skills to see me through this adventure.
