While I haven’t had much time for blogging lately because of projects I’m working on, I have been getting back on track with my workouts. I got in a couple of runs this week, including a 3.2 miler on Thursday that went better than expected and this morning was my hill walk, 6ish miles. That’s the farthest distance I’ve put on these feet and it wasn’t bad at all.
The next step is getting to the point where I can run 6 miles, and that will be soon. The workout I was most proud of this week was the 3.2-mile run. It’s amazing how my head gets in the way of my progress sometimes. Since my running had been so intermittent the last couple of months, I’ve been hesitant to push it past 2.5 miles, thinking that running 3.2 might just do me in, since I hadn’t done it in a while. I have to keep reminding myself that my body has gotten used to running these distances, and I can do them. And on Thursday, I proved to myself that, yes, I’m still capable.
A year ago, I was just getting to the point where I could run two miles without any walking. What a difference a year makes. It feels good to be back in the swing of things. My next race is only 6 weeks away, so it’s time to get to some serious training. I’ll be kicking up the swimming to twice a week, and yes, getting on the bike. ugh. I don’t know what it is about the bike that I resist, but it is the discipline I most resist. I have to get over that too.
What I have realized from my semi-hiatus is that I definitely won’t go back to couch potato me. I’m much happier and motivated when I actually get up and move during the day. My days are best when my mornings are active.
I’m so glad the nice weather is here. I plan to take advantage and log lots of miles!
