I was cruising around their website and I totally want to do this marathon. The course looks awesome. It takes you all over D.C., the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Memorial, Capitol, National Stadium, etc. It starts and ends at RFK Stadium. Oh yeah, they have a half marathon too.
There’s still time to sign up you have until March 18 th. There are some qualifying times but they are very liberal. I think even I could make them J
Plus, the proceeds support youth sports groups, how cool is that?? Special Olympics, Fort Dupont Ice Arena, Y, Washington Mystics, Winners Lacrosse, Joy of Sports Foundation, just to name a few.
They also have maps for the spectators so you can find the best places to stand to watch your loved ones torture themselves J I wish all marathons provided that so that people can move from place to place to see you run. Totally cool.
I started my fitness journey 12 years ago – UGH!!!! – because I wanted to run a marathon. I did my first one in 2001 and swore I would never do another.
I did my second one in 2005. I’m doing my third in December. Do you see a pattern here?? They are getting closer and closer together.
I would absolutely love to do one in all 50 states. Don’t know that I’ll have time since I’m not that young anymore, but I’d sure like to give it a try.
Oh yeah, I'm sure they need volunteers too. Us racers know how important volunteers are to a race. So if you're in the area and have the time check it out. At least go check out their website, Wirefly National Marathon because it's pretty cool.
