Dilantin and other medication that affect brain function may slow down weight loss if it changes your appetite. Many of the anti-seizure drugs are used to treat bi-polar disorder and have a history of causing weight gain. Dilantin has been around for a very long time so your physician should be able to track its weight gain potential for you. If you feel yourself constantly wanting to eat or never feeling satisfied after a meal, then the drug may be preventing feelings of satiety orĀ  fullness. One way to deal with this is to increase serotonin in your brain . This chemical shuts off appetite. You increase it by eating starchy foods by themselve without protein as we describe in the Serotonin Power Diet. Also make sure you are exercising regularly; this is important just to keep your weight loss going.
