What will it take for you to stay on your diet

Posted Apr 11 2009 12:56am

It certainly takes more than meets the eye. A food plan and some willpower just don't cut it. Right? How many of you have been there...done that? Here are some of the necessary ingredients (no relation to food) for you to stay on a diet.

There are repeated tries. This is a must. Every habit change takes repeated tries before successes begin to mount up.

A food plan (diet to you) can be a good guide, especially if the food plan is one that fits with who you are and how you live.

What else? Well, there's willpower, yes there is. But you'll run out of willpower quicker than you would if you use skillpower. So go ahead and substitute skillpower for willpower.

What is skillpower anyway? It's skill at dieting, staying on you diet mostly. An example of skillpower is knowing how to go right back on your diet after you cheat. Skillpower is knowing that falling off your diet is a chance to practice going back on. Skillpower is taking the opportunity when you fall off to look and see just what makes you fall off and whether you fall off all the way or just a little.

Using this kind of information wisely and well is what makes for skillpower. And skillpower makes it so you can stay on your diet.
